Baudrillard reified the spectacular nature of Desert Storm’s media coverage
with his famous phrase “The Gulf War never happened”. (Baudrillard was, of
course, being provocative: what he meant was that there is only a very loose
association between the actual gulf war & what the media depicted it as.)

And, of course, the Emergency Broadcast Network made subversive mashups of
Gulf War propaganda footage a cornerstone of its video installations and
performances.
