Absolutely. The linux desktop (even with tiling WMs) is not a good example of a meaningful alternative. We donβt have any of the attributes I covered in [Composability, Homogeneity, and Language-based Systems](https://hackernoon.com/composability-homogeneity-and-language-based- systems-fb00e2c2458) in X. Interesting alternatives to the Apple UI guidelines are substantially more obscure & lie generally far outside the UNIX ecosystem (although plan9 has some of them).
